Overview
Piarom is one of the most prized dates in Iran. It grows on the mountain slopes around Hajiabad in Hormozgan and is harvested semi-dry: the skin is thin and slightly crackled, and the flesh is dense, chewy and caramel-sweet with a hint of chocolate.
Its lower moisture means Piarom keeps beautifully at room temperature and travels well — ideal for gifting, for the desk drawer, or for pairing with strong coffee and a sharp cheese.

Growing region
Piarom, the “chocolate date”
Piarom palms grow on the hillsides around Hajiabad, between the mountains and the Persian Gulf. The semi-dry fruit has a thin, crackled skin and a toffee-like centre, and keeps far longer than soft dates.
Nutrition
Notable: Naturally sweet with no added sugar; a good source of potassium and fibre. Typical values for dates per 100 g (USDA FoodData Central). Actual values vary by crop and roast.
For its dark, chocolate-brown skin and the cocoa-like note that comes through its caramel sweetness.
Up to 12 months in a cool, dry cupboard and around 18 months in the fridge.
Yes. Mazafati is a soft, high-moisture date, closer to fresh fruit than to a dried date. Keep it in the fridge, where it stays at its best for several months.
Natural fruit sugar crystallising on the surface. It is a sign of a well-dried fig, not mould, and it is perfectly safe to eat.
